Danny Mekonnen is a Boston-based musician and the Founder of the Debo Band. His ArtLab residency supported research and development of Emergence; a new work that illuminates the “spiritual jazz” developed by pianist, harpist, singer, and composer Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda.
During the residency at the ArtLab, Meredith Monk will develop Indra’s Net. This new evening-length performance will premier in 2021 and will be her most ambitious exploration of the interplay of music, movement, architecture and space to date. The ArtLab will host an open rehearsal of Indra's Net in mid-April, 2020.
Merritt Moore’s residency will be an investigation of choreographing a dance duet between a robot and human. Merritt and collaborator Alice Williamson will explore how Artificial Intelligence can inspire and broaden human creativity through the language of dance. Their residency will include ballet dance, film making and a UR10e robotic arm.
While working at the ArtLab, visual artist Dario Robleto will work with choreographer Matty Davis, Eryka Dellenbach and PhD Candidate in Classical Philology Hannelore Segers. Throughout his 20-year career as an artist, Dario Robleto has sought to cultivate rigorous, mutually transformative interactions among the arts, humanities, and sciences.
