LPCE and metaLAB: Rigorous Play & Whimsical Work

Rigorous Play & Whimsical Work was a workshop on the use of whimsy and surprise in the creative process, incorporating playfulness, chance, and the value of constraints. Designed as a fast-paced, hands-on session at Harvard’s ArtLab, students explored new forms of collaboration, working with physical materials to give shape to big ideas.

Rigorous Play was led by Sarah Newman, Director of Art & Education, Principal of metaLAB at Harvard. Newman works on the social and cultural implications of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and human-machine interactions, through creative workshops and interactive art.

This workshop, supported by the Elson Family Arts Initiative Fund, was designed for the Lemann Program on Creativity & Entrepreneurship course LPCE 101: StudioLab.
