Director

Bree Edwards is the founding director of the ArtLab at Harvard University. This innovative laboratory, designed by the renowned architecture firm Barkow Leibinger, is a hub of experimentation, collaboration, and research in the arts. ArtLab hosts a residency program for Harvard faculty and visiting artists, commissions and produces new public artwork, supports interdisciplinary projects by Harvard students, and opens to the public several times a year for events.

Prior to her work at Harvard, Bree was the director of the Northeastern Center for the Arts, program director of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at the University of Houston, and director of education at the Asheville Museum of Art.

Bree’s professional experience extends beyond her administrative roles. As a Curatorial Fellow at the DeApple Centre for Contemporary Art in Amsterdam, she honed her curatorial skills after receiving her M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. She has curated numerous exhibitions, and her writings in art publications have also contributed to the discourse in the field of contemporary art. She has been a guest speaker, critic, or panelist at institutions such as the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Lesley University, Alliance for Arts in Research Universities, New England Foundation for the Arts, Jan Van Eyck Academy, De Ateliers Amsterdam, California College of Art, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Houston Arts Alliance. Bree received her B.A. from Goodard College.

Bree serves on the Harvard University Committee on the Arts, the Maynard Cultural Council, and Arts Administrators in Higher Education.
