Artist-in-residence, Frank Waln has been commissioned by the Harvard University Committee on the Arts (HUCA) to create a public artwork for the campus in Spring 2024. At this intimate performance of storytelling and song, Waln will share his process for the creation of this new public artwork, with an introduction by Harvard student Kylie Hunts-in-Winter.

Born and raised in the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, Frank Waln is a Sicangu Lakota hip-hop artist and music producer who uses music to address social issues affecting the Native community. During his residency, he is collaborating with students and staff from the Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP) to create a Spring 2024 gathering that brings together Native and non-native members of the Harvard community through music. This Fall performance and Spring gathering are part of Frank Waln’s residency (2023-24)

Kylie Hunts-in-Winter is Standing Rock Dakota/Lakota and a Junior at Harvard College Studying Sociology. Kylie is a huge MMIWP and Indigenous rights advocate, having taught free self-defense classes nationally in support of the MMIWP Movement with her 16+ years of martial arts experience. Kylie also runs an instagram account, @bravewoman__, with 100K+ followers that supports women in martial arts all around the world.
