ART+ is a series that explores how interdisciplinary thinking that prioritizes art and creativity inspires experimental and innovative approaches to tackling complex challenges. ART+ is co-organized by ArtLab and Lemann Program on Creativity and Entrepreneurship (LPCE) student accelerator at the Bok Center for Teaching and Learning.
Each session concludes with an ideation session designed to prepare Harvard students to take the lead in solving global challenges by fostering art and entrepreneurial thinking.
DANIEL B. CHONDE, MD PhD (Radiologist) – Dan is a radiology resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. He moved to Boston in 2007 for college and graduated from MIT with a degree in physics. He subsequently received his PhD in Biophysics through The Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences with a joint degree from MIT in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics. Following his PhD he attended Harvard Medical School. He did his intern year at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and is a current resident in the MGH Radiology Department.
Daniel currently serves as the co-chair for the MGH Radiology Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee’s Education subcommittee and as the Diversity Strategist for the MESH incubator. His work currently focuses on using design thinking and rapid prototyping to address health disparities and is passionate about improving equity in medicine. DAWN M. SIMMONS (Director) – Dawn is a director, playwright, arts administrator, educator, and cultural consultant living in Somerville, MA. She is the Artistic Director of The Front Porch Arts Collective, Boston’s newest Black theatre company committed to advancing racial equity in Boston through theater (www.frontporcharts.org), and Executive Director of StageSource, a non-profit organization serving New England’s theatre sector specializing in workforce development and sector improvement (www.stagesource.org).
Dawn’s work has been seen across New England on stage at The Nora Theater/WAM Theatre (Pipeline), Lyric Stage Company (The Wiz, Warrior Class, and Saturday Night Sunday Morning), Hibernian Hall (With Glittering Eyes), Actors’ Shakespeare Project (Macbeth), The Front Porch Arts Collective/Greater Boston Stage Company (The Three Musketeers), Greater Boston Stage Company (The Irish and How They Got That Way), SpeakEasy Stage Company (Just Cause (The Boston Project)), Men On Boats), Bad Habit Productions (The Real Inspector Hound), Boston Public Works (Hard and Fast: A Love Story), New Exhibition Room (Smile), and Fresh Ink Theatre (The Embryos).
NICHOLAS MEDVESCEK is a creative producer and consultant working across divergent disciplines to upend paradigms and inspire new connections. He has served as the co-director of the MIT Hacking Arts Festival, a hackathon and convening at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, and the arts. He recently held the title of Director of Projects at A R E A Gallery in Boston, where he continues to serve as an advisor. His events and projects have been covered in Take Magazine, The Boston Globe, and The New Yorker.
