Faculty Residency
Fall 2022

Dr. Louisa Penfold, Co-Chair of Arts and Learning, Harvard Graduate School of Education, led a series of studio workshops at ArtLab for the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s course, ‘Contemporary art in early childhood education.’

Participants explored the potential of modern and contemporary art in young children’s learning through hands-on experimentation with art media, including paint, cardboard, light, plastic, clay, and sound. Through studio workshop activities, students investigated the possibilities of New Materialism in creative learning – a theoretical orientation that positions materials and architectural spaces as active forces in knowledge production.
